Joe Dumars inducted to Hall of Fame finally...... amazing!!!
Joe Dumars, on guarding Michael Jordan of the Bulls: "I knew he was not going to score 60 on me."Basketball legend Michael Jordan swears by Dumars, calling him and Dennis Johnson the toughest defenders he ever faced. Barkley and Wilkins said Dumars was the best all-around player on the Pistons -- even ahead of Isiah Thomas.
Dumars played for the best team in basketball in 1989 and 1990 when the Pistons won back-to-back championships. The best times for Dumars was driving his car up I-75 or sitting on the team bus heading down Madison Ave. toward Chicago Stadium. The games against Jordan and the Bulls invigorated him.
The Pistons and Bulls were bitter rivals. Jordan could not become a champion until he figured out the Pistons, their mind-boggling Jordan Rules defense, and the sticky defense of Dumars.
Most players feared Jordan. Dumars embraced the challenge.
Sometimes he'd pat Jordan on the side after a great play and say, "That was special." Jordan playfully would ask Dumars to cool down after he hit a few three-point shots. The banter turned into a friendship.
"It was always fun to play against him," Dumars said. "It was always a big game and he was always going to be spectacular. I was always juiced up."
But didn't he fear Jordan breaking out a 60-point game on him? Dumars smiled: "I knew he was not going to score 60 on me."
